Finger Lakes Koryu-kai provides the Ithaca, New York area with its only fully authorized instruction and training in koryu bujutsu - the traditional fighting arts of the Japanese samurai. The members of our small group study one of two historically important classical Japanese combat systems. These koryu bujutsu are the Tenshinsho-den Katori Shinto Ryu and Shinto Muso Ryu Jo. All classes are held under the direction of Larry E. Bieri, a senior member of both traditions with over 30 years of experience in Japanese weapons arts. Mr. Bieri began his study of these and other martial ryuha (traditions) during a 16-year stay in Japan that began in 1971.
